Coaching with Katelyn James

When I first became interested in photography, I studied. A ton. And if you know me, you know that this is not a typical Sarah practice.

I'm just not a studier. Never been a huge reader...Never a good "skimmer", or a good "highlighter", a good "note-taker", etc.

But when I met photography, I suddenly loved studying. Every bit of information I could get about the art, I ate up. I highlighted, saved articles, bought books, etc. And the BIGGEST studying material I found was photography BLOGS. Ah, since its Thanksgiving, I must say- I am so thankful for BLOGGING!

I quickly became a blog "stalker" of a few photographers. New material almost everyday? New photos to study all the time?! Yes! Studying became FUN!

One of these blogs I started to "stalk" was that of Katelyn James. I was (and still am) AMAZED by her beautiful images, her use of golden light, and her ability to capture the most genuine of emotions. And not only does she take the most gorgeous pictures- she'a an AWESOME writer and teacher! I am so drawn to her business because she is so REAL and relatable! I can honestly say that through Katelyn's blogging, I have grown SO much in my knowledge of the photo business!

So you can imagine my excitement when Katelyn decided to start offering COACHING sessions. A day with the one and only Katelyn James?! Seriously!? How could I NOT take advantage?

So for my birthday (yeah, I bought myself a birthday present)...I purchased a spot to join Katelyn and two other photographers for a day of all things photography with Katelyn James!

Whenever people would ask me about it, I would describe this present to myself in saying that, for me, a day with Katelyn James was like a day with Madonna. One of the BIGGEST stars of photography.

A couple of weeks ago- the coaching day FINALLY came...and it was one of the best days...EVER> Nope, not lying. Such an awesome day.

I met Katelyn and her husband, Michael, along with two other sweet photographers, Nikki and Charlotte, for a yummy lunch...and then a few hours of headshots! It was SO helpful to be able to see Katelyn in action: to see her awesome eye for the most beautiful light, her effortless way of posing, and how amazing she is at interacting with her clients! And being able to get some pictures from THE Katelyn James?! Oh my goodness...

After our headshot time, I followed Katelyn to her adorable house and office to discuss all things business. Really- I can't tell you how HELPFUL this time with Katelyn was for me and this business. I cannot WAIT to start sharing with you all the changes I will be making as a result of Katelyn's coaching!
